Graded Meets
Graded meets widen the opportunity for all swimmers to swim in competitive events, however, the fastest swimmers are usually precluded by the entry rules from swimming at these meets.
Entries
The entry procedures for graded meets can be slightly confusing ! The organiser of the meet will publish a consideration time for each event - swimmers who would be expected to swim faster than the consideration time will not be entered. Your coach will publish a list of entries that have been submitted to the meet organiser – note that there is no guarantee that any swimmers will be competing at the meet at this point. Your coach must send the entries to the event organiser six to eight weeks before the date of the meet, this means that you must tell your coach at least eight weeks in advance if you will not be available to swim. Unless told otherwise your coach will assume that you are available for all meets.
Acceptances
The meet organiser will select the swimmers who will compete along with a number of reserves who will only swim if there are withdrawals from an event. The list of swimmers selected to swim will be published by your coach as accepted swims.
Reserves
Some swimmers may be selected as reserves, these swimmers will only know if they are swimming on the day of the event. Some events may have more than one reserve so a swim may not be guaranteed until multiple swimmers have been withdrawn.
Withdrawals
For various reasons swimmers may not be able to swim at a meet. In these circumstances it is the coaches responsibility to withdraw these swimmers, usually 20-30 minutes after the start of the warm up. It is therefore vital that all swimmers turn up early so that their presence can be noted. If a swimmer turns up late they may be withdrawn in error.
