Congratulations to all the swimmers.View points from the Club Champs 2011
A swimmer has to have competed in all events to receive a place in the competition.
9 Milngavie & Bearsden swimmers left the wind and rain behind over the recent festive period, travelling to Toremolinos for warm weather long course training. The group joined swimmers from F.I.R.S.T (Falkirk) and Dumfries for 8 days of intensive training encompassing 13 pool and 3 land sessions. The Spanish sunshine and training facilities provided the perfect setting to step up preparations for the year ahead. Not only did it offer much needed long course exposure, but it also gave the swimmers the chance to test themselves against some of their closest competitors. It wasn't quite all work and no play however, with new year celebrations on the beach and a midnight rendition of auld lang syne! Returning tired but enthused, the swimmers look forward to their first test of 2012 at the west district grand prix this weekend at East Kilbride. Not pictured, but also out in Toremolinos with the Scottish National Youth squad, was Kirstin McKinley.
Congratulations to Paige Lang, Kirstin McKinley, Lauren Averell, Megan Donnelly, Jack Thorpe and Calum Tait on their recent club records.

Calum Tait came away with silver in the 200 breaststroke, only edged out of the top spot by Warrender's world junior 100m breaststroke champion Craig Benson. Jack Thorpe also made it a clean sweep of district records over the sprint freestyle events, taking bronze in the 50. A number of other outstanding individual and team performances (girls 4x50 freestyle - Lauren Averell, Kirstin McKinley, Holly Shearer, Paige Lang - bronze) made it the most successful showing for the club at a national championships in many years.
Coach Craig Houston commented on the performance - 'I'm immensely proud of the way the whole team performed. Beyond the exceptional achievements of the individual medallists, our relay teams demonstrated our formidable depth and quality for a club of our size. As still a relatively young team to be competing at senior national level, we showed that we're more than a match for some of the top swimmers and clubs in the country, outperforming bigger, better resourced local rivals City of Glasgow amongst others. The group of swimmers continues cope well with the transition from junior swimming and now look forward to testing themselves in the new year at national and international level'.
A huge thank you to Craig Houston, Vickie Lang & Kelly Averell who travelled with the team and looked after everyone the whole weekend.
