New Coaches

We are very pleased to welcome two new coaches to our team.
Adam Riley has previously worked with City of Liverpool and Liverpool Penguin SC.
Kirsty Waltho has previously worked with the L2Swim section of M&B.
We are sure they will both be a great asset to the Club and we hope you all extend a warm welcome to them both.

Not Returning after the summer?

If you are considering leaving the club after the summer it would be helpful if you could let Bruce Tang, membership secretary know about this ASAP (brucet88@aol.com)

Timekeepers

The club would like to encourage all swimmers aged 14 and over to become qualified timekeepers.
Please send an email to Douglas McGarrie (dmcgarrie@yahoo.com) to request a place on an upcoming course.

Timekeepers & Judges

Timekeepers
The club is looking into running another timekeeping course.  There will be 10 places available, first come first served.
If you haven't done the course, please consider it, as a way to support the club and ensure that we continue to maintain a healthy number of available officials. Timekeeping at time trials and meets when your child is swimming doesn't require a lot of commitment, is a good way to pass the time, and has the best view!
We are especially low in numbers of timekeepers of parents of the younger age group swimmers (Tadpole A, B. C)  so if you're in this category then please take the course.

Please send a note to Douglas McGarrie, dmcgarrie@yahoo.com to register interest.

Judges
A couple of people have asked about doing the judges course. We also need more judges in the club therefore if you are a qualified timekeeper, then please consider doing the judge 1 course. If we get enough numbers we may be able to run a course for the club.  Again, email Douglas to register interest in this.

Allander Poolside

We have recently received complaints from the Allander that people are going onto poolside (probably parents!) without covering their outer footwear with the protectors available near the shower area.  Please can you ensure that if you do need to go onto poolside for whatever reason that you either remove your shoes, or cover them with the protectors supplied by the Allander.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Club Mobile Phone

If you have not yet registered your mobile number by texting squad name and swimmer name to the club mobile phone, please do so ASAP.  The club mobile number is on the members area of our website.  If anybody has any difficulty accessing this please e-mail the club at:  milngavie_and_bearsden_asc@yahoo.com

Aquathlon

The 2010 Scottish Junior Aquathlon Series starts on March 21st at Boclair Academy. With ages from under 8's to 16, these events provide a fun introduction to multi-sports, and no experience is required (an aquathlon is a swim followed by a run, like a triathlon but without the bike!).

Security at the Allander

We are aware that lockers have recently been broken into in the Allander changing rooms.  We have been informed that a bag containing car keys was emptied and the car subsequently stolen from the car park.  Please discourage your swimmers from taking any valuables to swimming.

Non-attendance at Meets

If you have an accepted swim at a meet and are not going to be available to attend it is essential that you let the coach know beforehand so that you can be withdrawn for that session.

Dropping off Younger Swimmers at Training

When dropping off younger swimmers at training it is essential that parents accompany the children into the pool building to ensure that the coach is present.  There are rare occasions when the coach maybe stuck in traffic or is late for another reason.   Your children are your responsibility until they are with the coach on poolside.  It is not advisable to just open the car door and allow them to enter pool buildings unaccompanied.

Swimmers Behaviour at Allander

We have recently received complaints from members of the public about the behaviour/language of some of our older swimmers in the showers and changing areas.  We do not have exclusive use of the facilities and need to respect that members of the public use these areas too.

Withdrawals

Nationals & Any Meet

Nationals
Any swimmer who makes finals (including reserves) at a National competition must be available and willing to swim unless there is valid medical reason for withdrawal.  If swimmers do withdraw for any other reason they will not be entered for the next National competition.

Any Meet
Please do not enter for meets unless you can be sure you are available to swim, ie if you know you always have school games on a Saturday morning, do not enter for that session.   If you persistently withdraw from all or part of a meet at short notice this will be noted and you will run the risk of not being entered for forthcoming meets.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of swimmers who are rejected from every meet and if you withdraw at short notice you are taking up a place which could have been allocated to someone else.

Collecting Swimmers after Training

Please ensure that you are on time to collect your swimmer from training.  Our Lets especially at Abercorn, Boclair, Cleveden and Knightswood are for set periods of time and as such, we have a small amount of time after training to vacate the building -  it is important that all parents arrive by the end of the allocated training session time to collect their children to ensure we comply with the terms of our Let.

[31/03/2009]

Security

Many swimmers leave their belongings in unlocked lockers at the Allander.  Unfortunately swimmers have recently had their phones stolen from unlocked lockers - please ensure a £1 coin is taken to swimming for a locker to avoid possessions being stolen.
